Confirm eligibility before ordering tests or printing a logo
SASO provides a conformity service for biodegradable plastic products under the applicable technical regulation. Eligibility must be checked for the actual product. An additive brochure or the word “biodegradable” on a quotation is not enough to establish the route.
Start with a product profile: intended use, polymer, thickness, dimensions, manufacturer and production site. Include clear photos and describe any contact with food or other particular use so it can be considered in the scope review.
Build an evidence trail for the material
The published service lists product testing, additive purchase records, company documentation and environmental-management evidence. Organise the information so the reviewer can understand which material and production details belong to the proposed product.
- Keep the product specification and polymer identification together.
- Identify the additive supplier and connect purchase records to the additive used.
- Retain complete test reports and the description of the tested sample.
- Record the production line and the product quantities requested for the application.
Check the application documents
SASO lists commercial registration and, for local factories, the industrial licence. Its service requires reports from a registered laboratory, invoices for additives from approved manufacturers, and an effective environmental-management system or ISO 14001 evidence.
The granting programme also addresses permitted additives, accurate marking and supporting technical records. Confirm the current requirements for your product rather than treating this guide as a complete submission list.
Example: a supplier statement without a matching sample
Illustrative example: a supplier provides an additive statement, while the available test report describes a plastic sample with no clear link to the proposed bag specification. Ask for the sample identity and material details before relying on the report.
Keep the unanswered questions in writing. This helps avoid ordering further tests for an unclear specification or preparing artwork before eligibility and evidence have been resolved.
Keep environmental claims within the evidence
Do not use permission under this scheme as proof of a separate compostability or recyclability claim. Describe only the characteristics supported by the relevant evidence, and do not put the logo on a product before the necessary permission is granted.
Send GoCertify the product profile and available material, supplier and test records for a preparation review. We can help organise the file and follow up questions; certification and permission to use the logo remain with the relevant authority.
