G-Mark is a Gulf conformity marking
The Gulf Conformity Mark indicates conformity with applicable Gulf technical regulations. GSO explicitly distinguishes it from a quality mark. The relevant regulation determines the assessment route, including when a notified body must take part.
Do not choose the route simply because a product will be sold in a GCC country. Start with the product category, intended use and applicable regulation.
Saudi Quality Mark is a separate licensing scheme
The Saudi Quality Mark concerns product conformity and the manufacturing quality system under SASO’s scheme. Some categories require it; other eligible products may apply voluntarily. It is not another name for G-Mark.
SASO’s Quality Mark application guidance also lists G-Mark evidence where the product requires it. The schemes can therefore be relevant to the same application context; holding one should not be treated as an automatic exemption from the other.
Ask these questions for your product
Use a separate line for each possible requirement in your planning sheet. Record the reason it applies, the evidence available and the question still awaiting confirmation.
- What is the exact product, intended use and model range?
- Which countries will receive it, and who is the manufacturer or importer?
- Which Gulf regulation, if any, covers the product?
- Does the Saudi product category require a Quality Mark licence?
- Do existing certificates cover the same model, brand and factory?
Example: a supplier sends one certificate
Illustrative example: a supplier sends a G-Mark certificate for an electrical product and calls it “Saudi approval”. First match the certificate to the model you plan to buy. Then review Saudi requirements separately, including Quality Mark eligibility and any other applicable registration or recognition route.
The useful question is not whether the supplier has a certificate, but what that certificate covers and which parts of the market-entry plan remain unresolved. Do not commission duplicate testing until the existing evidence has been reviewed.
Keep the enquiry specific
Send the product specification, model list, label photos, intended markets and complete existing reports. Ask for a written explanation of the proposed route and the evidence that can be reused, subject to acceptance.
GoCertify helps organise the review and application follow-up. Neither this comparison nor a preliminary review is a certification decision. Confirm the current product requirements before making shipment commitments.
