THE SERVICE
Saudi biodegradable plastic requirements and logo eligibility
SASO’s biodegradable plastic conformity service provides a route to obtain the logo under the applicable technical regulation. A product must fall within the scheme’s scope; describing a material as biodegradable does not establish eligibility.
We begin with the polymer, thickness, intended use and additive evidence, then review the testing and manufacturing documents. Oxo-biodegradable, compostable, bio-based and recyclable describe different characteristics and should not be treated as equivalent claims.
Who this service is for
- Manufacturers and importers of potentially covered polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) products.
- Suppliers preparing plastic bags or similar short-use products for a scope review.
- Businesses reviewing additive evidence and manufacturing documentation for an application.
OUR ROLE
How GoCertify helps.
- Check product use, material composition and thickness against the scheme scope.
- Review technical evidence and coordinate the required testing steps.
- Organise additive-sourcing and environmental-management records.
- Support MANEH application preparation and follow up through the review process.
GETTING PREPARED
Plastic conformity documents: materials, additives and testing
These are useful starting points. We confirm the final document list for your product and application.
- Commercial registration and an industrial licence for local factories, where applicable.
- Product specifications, polymer type, thickness, intended use and production-line details.
- Product test reports from a laboratory registered with SASO.
- Purchase invoices for degradation additives from approved manufacturers, with relevant supplier details.
- Environmental-management system evidence or ISO 14001 certification, and the required product-quantity information.
YOUR NEXT STEPS
A clear path forward.
Review the material and product scope
Share the product description, polymer, thickness and intended use. We check eligibility before defining testing or application support.
Connect the product to its evidence
Organise product reports, additive purchase records and factory information. Identify missing or inconsistent details before preparing the application.
Support the conformity and logo request
Prepare the MANEH file and follow up review questions. Use the logo only after the relevant permission is granted and within its approved scope and conditions.
COMMON QUESTIONS
A little more clarity.
Does the scheme cover all plastic products?
No. Product eligibility must be checked against the technical regulation. Material type alone is not enough to establish the applicable route.
Is an additive supplier’s statement enough?
It is only part of the evidence to review. The application also needs the relevant product testing and manufacturing documentation.
When can the logo be placed on the product?
Use the logo only after the applicable permission has been granted and within its approved product scope and marking conditions. We can help review those details with you.
Does this logo also certify that a product is compostable or recyclable?
Do not use approval under this scheme as evidence for separate environmental claims. Any compostability, bio-based content or recyclability claim needs its own relevant evidence. We help organise the application file without extending claims beyond what the documents support.
What should I send for a biodegradable plastic application review?
Send the product use, polymer type, thickness, photos and specifications, together with test reports and additive supplier records. Include factory details and environmental-management evidence. Tell us which records are unavailable so we can identify the next steps.
What affects the cost and timing of the logo application?
Eligibility, test coverage, additive records and completeness of the factory file affect the work required. We define our support scope after reviewing these details. Testing and scheme charges should be identified separately, and an incomplete file can delay the decision.
Practical guides for your application
GoCertify supports application preparation and follow-up. Approval and issuance remain with the relevant authority or certification body.
